Introduction to Design-Thinking
Design-Thinking is a human centred approach to innovation that draws from the experience and toolkit of designers in order to address and integrate the needs of people before coming up with solutions.
In this fun and interactive workshop we will explore the tool and methodology of Design-Thinking, which is one of the fundamental building blocks of exploring problem-solution fit in the process of designing & planning any type of new intervention, product or service.

Speaker: Barbara Diehl
Barbara is the Director of Transfer and Innovation at the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres, Germany’s largest research organisation with 39,000 researchers across 18 national research centres and an annual budget of 4.5bn Euro. Her extensive experience in entrepreneurship and innovation is based on over 10 years of working in various knowledge transfer settings, many in the field of entrepreneurship and venture creation at the University of Oxford’s Entrepreneurship Centre (2008-2015) based at Said Business School and the Innovation Academy at University College Dublin (UCD). Whilst being at Oxford, she was responsible for the Centre’s early-stage investment programmes and also directed the “Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Programme – Growth Initiative”, a professional development programme for the CEOs and founders of fast-growing UK small businesses. In her professional capacity within the Innovation Academy at University College Dublin (UCD) Barbara has been involved on a regular basis in helping students, adult learners and professionals refine their business plans and investment pitches. She has also served on investment committees of various seed funds. Her particular strengths is working with researchers and scientists on their early-stage venture ideas and supporting them at the various stages of the process.
