Application for the "Master of Arts" study courses at the Faculty of Humanities


Dear prospective students,
On the following page, you will find information on the application process (deadlines, documents, and application portal) for our Master's degree programs. Please have a look at the links in the right column.

Regular application period: April 1st, 2024 – June 1st, 2024

Admission/rejection letters: The letters will be sent by e-mail approximately in the middle/at the end of July 2024.

Additional application period: September 15th, 2024 – September 30th, 2024
Please note: International students who need a visa can also apply during this application period, but beacuse of visa issues admission letters will be send for the summer semester 2025.
Admission/rejection letters: The letters will be sent by e-mail approximately in the first week of lectures.

Applications have to be submitted via the online application portal. Paper documents are not required.

First day of lectures: October 21st, 2024

The programmes of the Department Intercultural German Studies have different deadlines. Please check the respective programme homepages (see link to Master of Arts programmes in the right column):

Intercultural German Studies/
German as a Foreign Language

  • Applications have to be submitted via the online application portal.
    Paper documents are not required.
  • Application period for applicants from non-EU countries:
    March 1st, 2024 – April 30th, 2024
  • Application period for applicants from EU countries:
    May 1st, 2024 – June 15th, 2024
  • Additional application period for applicants from EU countries:
    September 15th, 2024 – October 05th, 2024

Intercultural German Studies/Germany-China Application deadline: July 15th, 2024. Applications for this Master program have to be submitted directly to the Department for Intercultural German Studies (not via the online application portal)

Please note: This only applies for applicants from EU countries and for applicants with a resident permit for Germany. International students who need a visa have to apply during the regular application period.

Application for minor subjects in summer semester

You can apply for all minor subjects ("Modulpakete" 36 and 18 credits) also for summer semester. Excluded are the following minor courses: Intercultural German Studies 36 credits as well as Scandinavian Languages 18 credits.

First day of lectures: April 08th, 2024

You have to provide proof of sufficient German language skills if you wish to enrol in a Master programme at the Faculty of Humanities. A proof of German language proficiency has to be submitted by September 30th (application for winter semester) or by March 31st (application for summer semester) at the latest.

International applicants who don't speak German can apply only for master programs and minor subjects ("Modulpakete") which are taught in English:
