Region-specific programmes

Additionally, the DAAD offers region-specific funding possibilities to strengthen international relations between universities of specific regions.

Examples for region-specific DAAD programmes:

Higher Education Dialogue with the Muslim World
The objective of the program
The main objective is the promotion of the cultural dialogue with the Islamic world through exchange and academic cooperation based on common scientific interests. Other key objectives of the program are the sustainable modernization of higher education in the partner countries, the targeted promotion of qualified junior academics in the regions in consideration of the gender equality, the establishment of regional teaching and research networks, the contribution of universities to social development and the development of a knowledge society in the region.

What is funded?
The focus of the funding is the support of the exchange of individuals and the network development between partner universities (e. g. contact trips of project representatives, the organization of workshops, summer schools and specialized courses in Germany and in the partner regions as well as stays of university teachers, students and graduates from Germany and target countries of the partner institutions of the project). Additionally, a limited amount of material and personnel is being supported for the implementation of the exchange measures.

Who is funded?
University teachers, members of the central block, graduates (e. g. doctoral students) and students from Germany and the before mentioned target regions, but not from third countries, can be supported.

Who can apply?
German universities are eligible to apply.
GEnKO - German-Korean Partnership Program
The objective of the program
The focus is on the consolidation of exiting and the initiation of new bilateral partnerships between German and Korean universities. A special emphasis is placed on the qualification of new academic staff.

What is funded?
The program promotes the mobility and stay of university members of the participating partner institutions for scientific exchange. DAAD funds can be used to apply for travel allowance and accommodation for the participants of German universities. The National Research Foundation (NRF) is responsible for the expenses of the Korean project participants.

Who is funded?
Researchers, university teachers, postdocs, doctoral students, graduates as well as students after the second completed study year can find support.

Who can apply?
Applications can be submitted by departments and faculties of German universities representing the planned funding project in a coherent concept.
AGGN - African Good Governance Network
The objective of the program
In the AGGN network, highly educated African academics are engaged, who have either studied or are still studying in Germany. Due to their qualifications, they can be counted among the future African decision-makers from sub-Saharan Africa, being the ones who promote and support democratization processes in their home countries. The AGGN is a dynamic network of coordinates, reflecting the values of "good governance" to actively promote the economic and democratic transformation in sub-Saharan Africa.

What is funded?
Funding can be provided for workshops (up to four on a yearly basis) on aspects of good governance. The active participation in conferences as well as the realization of specific theme-oriented workshops can also be promoted.

Who is funded?
African students / graduates who are (still) in Germany at the time of the selection as well as during the first year of the membership.

Who can apply?
African students who are still in Germany at the time of the selection as well as during the first year of membership, and German universities or renowned scientific institutions nominating suitable candidates for membership.
Integrated projects for university cooperation with Brazil
The objective of the program
The objective of the program is to strengthen the cooperation between Brazil and German universities through the exchange of students. For the students, the study at the foreign university shall supplement and expand the studies at the home university.

What / Who is funded?
Students from the third year of study (i. e. students in the third year of the Bachelors and in the Master’s degree), university lecturers and postdocs are supported.

Who can apply?
German university, lecturers and technical college on the German side can apply. The program is open to all disciplines.

Please note that DAAD proposals, which require the approval of the presidential board of the university, need to be forwarded to Göttingen International at least 2 weeks before the application deadline. This is necessary in order to review the proposal according to the regulations of the call, and to ensure that the approval of the presidential board of the university can be obtained in time.
