John Pierpont Morgan (1837 to 1913)

John Pierpont Morgan (1837 to 1913), son of a wealthy banker’s family from Boston (USA), studied at the Georgia Augusta in the year 1856. He visited lectures in trigonometry and chemistry and had daily lessons in German. Morgan started his career in 1857, in the course of which he became the most influential banker of the USA. One year before his death the banker and art collector donated money to the Göttingen Library. With this the unusually extensive collection of American and English literature accumulated since the 18th century could be extended further. Additionally, the Library received a copy of the work “The North American Indian”.
