Founding of the Ethics Committee

On 23 June 2015, the Presidential Board of the University of Göttingen passed the resolution to establish an Ethics Committee. On 15 July 2015, the Senate nominated the members who convened for their inaugural session on 10 November 15.
This Ethics Committee was established first and foremost to fulfil two missions:

  • Third-party funding organisations, like the German Research Foundation (DFG) in particular, are increasingly requiring the inclusion of a statement concerning research ethical issues in grant applications.
  • Guidance is given by the "Guidelines for Transparency in Research – Joint Position Paper of the State University Conference of Lower Saxony and the Lower Saxony Ministry of Science and Culture" (published in German; see link in right column).

Research and Transfer Services provides the Ethics Committee with support and guidance.
Moreover, Ethics Committees are already in place at the University Medical Centre and the Georg Elias Müller Institute for Psychology.
