The Faculty of Theology at Georg-August-University, Göttingen, seeks applications for a tenured faculty position as

Professor (W2) of Ecumenical Theology with a focus on Orthodox Christianity and its global impact, past and present,

to be filled in October 2021.

The successful candidate will be expected to cover the entire field of Ecumenical Studies both in research and in teaching. A research profile with special emphasis on both Orthodox and Oriental Christianities, their history and cultural context, and their global impact is required. Professional duties will include participation in intra-faculty research projects, in cross-faculty interdisciplinary research networks and in existing university centers such as the Centrum Orbis Orientalis et Occidentalis (CORO) , as well as the acquisition of external research funding and the active involvement in academic self-governance. The successful applicant will be expected to teach in all degree programs offered by the Faculty of Theology (the majority of which have German as language of instruction with the remainder being taught in English). A research-oriented and student-centered teaching concept based on didactic-methodological reflection is desirable.

Consideration will be given to applicants with a completed Habilitation (or its equivalent) in the field of Ecumenical Studies, Church History or Mission Studies / Intercultural Theology, an outstanding research and teaching profile and record, and experience in the acquisition of external research funding. It is a prerequisite for an appointment that applicants belong to a protestant church or, alternatively, to a member church of the World Council of Churches. Non-native speakers of German should be willing to acquire the language proficiency necessary to teach within the German-speaking study programs of the faculty.

The conditions for an appointment are governed by § 25 NHG (Lower Saxony Higher Education Act) in its current version. The appointment will be made by the University of Göttingen. Further details will be provided upon enquiry.
