Mission Statement

The purpose of the Faculty of Forest Sciences and Forest Ecology is to carry out basic research into the ecological and economic sustainable use of forest resources, to apply this knowledge, and to teach it to students. This work, in addition to its scientific importance, has a high social and political value. Forests serve a large number of purposes, such as protection of water, climate, air, habitats, and wildlife; for recreation; and for production of wood and other raw materials, which are used in many types of industry. Future development is dependent upon finding new economic strategies under changing environmental conditions, in order to maintain stable and productive forest ecosystems and develop new uses for wood and wood products.
