The GCG is an interdisciplinary institution of the University of Göttingen which aims at advancing research activities in the field of Gender Studies at the Göttingen Campus. The GCG is backed by the Faculty of Humanities and the Faculty of Social Sciences.The establishment of the GCG was decided by the Senate and the Presidential Board at the beginning of 2014.
The founding of the GCG followed, amongst other things, the recommendation of the WKN who in the course of their evaluation of Göttingen's Gender Studies emphasised the positive development in teaching and suggested a strengthening of interdisciplinary research and networking. The GCG's focal task, therefore, is the increase of research activity in the field of Gender Studies in Göttingen along with expanding interdisciplinary networking.
