Education (M.Ed.) (for a teaching profession at the Gymnasium)

Only the best become teachers: This degree programme provides optimal preparation for teaching by combining academic disciplines, specialised didactics and educational science. The second objective of this programme is to foster new academic talent in empirical teaching and school research as well as in specialised didactics. A special aspect of this programme is therefore found in the close connection between teaching, practice in schools and empirically oriented research. A Master of Education is a prerequisite for entering a secondary school as trainee.

Programme description
The programme Master of Education for a teaching profession at the Gymnasium focuses on theories, methods and projects in empirical teaching and school research. The programme is closely linked to the Central Organisation for Teacher Training (ZELB). Its objective is to strongly foster the young scientists in the field of empirical teaching and school research as well as to foster specialised didactics. A special aspect of this programme is therefore found in the close connection between teaching and empirically oriented research.
The programme comprises the following areas of competence and credits: 50 C in the area of educational-scientific competence development, 36 C in the area of subject-scientific / subject didactical competence development, 8 C for two specialised didactical internships in both teaching subjects, one of which may be a research internship, 6 C for the Master module and 20 C for the Master’s thesis.
The degree enables graduates to enter into the practical teaching period necessary for a teaching profession at the Gymnasium.
