A12 MHD-turbulence and the origin of supermassive black holes
Prof. Dr. Jens Niemeyer, Prof. Dr. Dominik Schleicher
Supermassive black holes are known to exist already in the first billion years of the Universe. We explore their formation process in the first massive dark matter halos using high-resolution, adaptive mesh refinement simulations with the cosmological (magneto-) hydrodynamics code Nyx, including a non-equilibrium network for chemistry and cooling. With unprecedented numerical resolution, we investigate the properties of turbulence during the formation of a self-gravitating accretion disk and explore the implications for angular momentum transport, fragmentation, and the amplification of magnetic fields. These properties will also be explored in the context of major mergers.
