Call for Applications Faculty of Humanities of the University of Göttingen

Around the world, scholars are persecuted because of their research and ideas, threatened and restricted in their work.

The Faculty of Humanities of the University of Göttingen awards fellowships (for a period of 12 months) and short-term scholarships (for a period between 4 weeks and 3 months) as bridging grants provided for threatened scholars (including PhD students). The fellowships and scholarships are going to be granted based on the scholarship program regulations (see “Amtliche Mitteilungen” as of 30 June 2017), approved by the Presidential Board.


For a short-term scholarship (4 weeks to 3 months), please provide the following documents:

  • Confirmation of the pertinent threat of the researcher by way of a residence status in the context of an asylum-granting procedure that confirms a recognised threat or by way of a credible threat assessment from a third party, such as the Scholars at Risk Network (CONTACT apply.scholarsatrisk@nyu.edu), the Scholar Rescue Fund, or the Council for At-Risk Academics
  • Tabular curriculum vitae (CV) of the candidate
  • Motivation letter specifying the field of research
  • Assessment by the mentor of the scientific fit and of the opportunity to provide regular supervision
  • Academic transcripts and certificates as well as other relevant documents (e.g. regarding international experience)

For a fellowship (12 months), please provide the following documents:

  • List of publications
  • Information regarding current or former funding provided by third parties (other scholarships, third party projects, etc.)
  • Assessment by the mentor of the scientific fit and of the opportunity to provide regular supervision
