Katalin Balázsi is head of the Thin Film Physics Department, one of the largest departments of the Institute for Technical
Physics and Materials Science in Budapest, Hungary, with 40 members. She obtained her PhD at the Slovak Technical University in 2005 where she worked on structural characterization of nanomaterials by transmission electron microscopy. Her research focuses on the development of different ceramics, mainly TiC based ceramic, hydroxyapatite bioceramics and Si3N4/graphene based ceramics for tribological applications. She is a secretary of Hungarian Society of Materials Science (2013-2020), board member of Hungarian Women in Science, Hungarian Delegate in the Nanometer Structure Division of IUVSTA (2013-2019). She has published more than 65 journal papers with 400 independent citations. Dr. Balázsi has 4 PhD students. She is working as leader in several national and international projects.
