Landscape-scale optimization of ecological and socio-economic functions

I am interested in how landscape-scale level ecological and socio-economic functions provided by rainforest transformation systems in Sumatra can be optimized at the same time. In doing, we need to understand how trade-offs and synergies among the functions depend on different land use strategies, market prices, and individual farming behavior on different spatial scales and under temporally changing conditions (such as changes in land use and market prices). I will run different land use (change) scenarios with an updated version of the spatially-explicit and agent-based simulation model EFForTS-ABM that is able to calculate socio-economic and ecological functioning on local scales. With this, I will quantify trade-offs and synergies among functions locally but also at the landscape level and ultimately being able to recommend optimal strategies that minimize trade-offs among functions given the market situation.
