Orientation program German language courses Counseling and supportOrientation
Our newcomers are invited to a two-week orientation program starting in mid-September right after the annual student-organized Horizons in Molecular Biology conference. During the orientation program we provide assistance and advice for managing your studies and day-to-day life in Göttingen, including arrangements for bank account, health insurance, residence permit, housing, and enrollment. Beyond info meetings in preparation of your studies, we take you on a guided city tour, inform you about computing and library facilities, our university, sports facilities, and cultural events.
During the orientation program, you are welcome to join one of our crash courses in German offered at different levels in cooperation with the university language department Lektorat Deutsch als Fremdsprache. These language courses are intended to facilitate your start in Göttingen, although you would get along well with English in everyday life. Weekly evening courses are offered throughout the semesters. All language courses are optional and free of tuition fees for students of the Molecular Biology Program.
As a newcomer you’ll receive admission, visa, and info letters to facilitate your travel preparation and your start in Göttingen. Beyond all the advice and administrative support you receive during the orientation program, you’ll be offered individual counseling from members of our program throughout your studies.
