SCIENTIFIC INTERESTS AND GOALS

My main interest is the use of biochemistry, biophysics and structural biology to understand the molecular mechanisms of biological phenomena through a bottom-up approach. Processes such as gene regulation, transcription, translation and cell signaling, interest me the most. I am also interested in the manipulation of these molecular mechanisms in order to design new biological systems that can be further applied to complex issues in biotechnology, medicine and the environment. Through this program, I look forward to learning the techniques available to address the current problems in molecular biology.
