From major airports by train to Göttingen:
The nearest airport is Hannover, but you will often find cheaper tickets to fly into Frankfurt International Airport. Göttingen can also conveniently reached via other airports such as Berlin or Hamburg. Regular train connections to Göttingen are available from all major German airports, often including a shuttle transfer to the main central station (Hauptbahnhof, Hbf) of the respective city, where you then need to change from a local train (or bus) to a long-distance train. Frankfurt International Airport accommodates two train stations (Fernbahnhof: long distance trains, Regionalbahnhof: local trains). All trains to Göttingen will take you to Göttingen Hauptbahnhof. The quickest way to reach Göttingen is by Intercity Express trains (ICE). Consult the website of the German Railway Company (Deutsche Bahn, DB) for schedules and ticket prices: http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en. At this website you will also be able to book online tickets. Additional information on the German train system and train travels from Frankfurt airport is also available here.

From Göttingen train station to the ENI:
To get from the main station (Hauptbahnhof) to our Neurosciences Office (Grisebachstr. 5) by public transportation (bus; approx. 2 Euros for single ticket), there are two options:

  • Take bus number 21 or 23 which is departing at the bus terminal, platform D in front of the train station (direction “Faßberg”). This bus takes only 14 minutes to our office. Please note that this bus is operated only from Monday to Friday every 30 minutes.

Whichever bus you take, get off at bus stop “Kellnerweg”. Walk in the same direction the bus takes. Where the street splits up, take the street on the right. On the left side, you will see a track between two buildings (connected by an overhead passage) leading to a parking lot a bit uphill. On the parking lot, turn right and you will see the ENI, a white building with orange window frames (< 4-minute walk from the bus stop).
A taxi will take you from the train station to the ENI in approx. 10-15 min (15-18 Euros)

Coming to Göttingen by car:
Take exit 72 (Göttingen Nord) from the Autobahn A7 and follow road A 388 towards Göttingen. This road will turn into a street called An der Lutter/B27. Follow the road leaving Göttingen in direction Nikolausberg (left at the first junction after leaving the city). Turn left at the next junction (direction Universität Nord). At the end of the street, turn right in the direction European Neuroscience Institute Osteingang (Julia-Lermontowa-Weg). Parking spaces are usually available. The Neurosciences Office is located on the ground floor, e.g. one level below the east entrance, on the left corridor coming from the stairs.
