A05 - PCET Mediators for Selective Electrochemical Bond Activation and Formation

Project A05 aims to investigate, exploit, and develop PCET redox mediators for electrochemically driven bond activation and formation steps in challenging substrates. Electrochemistry has been recently re-emerged as environmentally friendly alternative to classical organic reaction protocols. Merging electrochemistry and molecular catalysis provides several advantages such as the reaction can be run at lower over potentials leading to fewer side reactions, reaction selectivities can be fine-tuned, and novel transformations can be accessed.
Project A05 targets the electrohydrogenations of (polar) double bonds, e.g. CO2, catalyzed by 3d metal hydrides and CH activation and functionalization of carbon skeletons utilising porphyrin ligands with {MO−H}-cores.
