Assessment of leaf area index and canopy openness across four land-use systems in Jambi Province Sumatra, Indonesia

The study aims at investigating the leaf area index (LAI) in four different land-use systems, comparing riparian with well drained sites, and identifying the relevant site-specific factors (climatic and stand variables) across the LAI estimation.

The following research questions will be addressed:
  • Are the LAI values comparable among the four land use systems (forest, jungle rubber, monoculture rubber and oil palm plantations)?
  • How is LAI correlated with climate and stand structure (tree diameter and height)?
  • What are the influencing site factors (climatic & stand variables) affecting the LAI estimation across the different land use systems?
