Indonesian Institute of Science (LIPI - Lembaga Ilmu Pengetahuan Indonesia)

The Indonesian Institute of Science (LIPI) is a non-ministerial government Institute integrated in the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education (RISTEK) and is directly responsible to the President of the Republic of Indonesia. It was founded in 1967 and has today about 2000 staff.
One of the main functions of LIPI is it to carry out basic, inter- and multidisciplinary research and to advice the government in the field of science and technology. LIPI is also the official partner of the DFG in Indonesia. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between LIPI and the University of Göttingen has been signed in October 2008. The MoU aims to promote mutual research and education collaboration, involving Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) and Tadulako University in Palu (UNTAD). LIPI has very good scientific expertise and an extensive scientific network within Indonesia. Building on our fruitful collaboration established during Phase 1 of the CRC we will continue to closely work together with the Cibinong Research Centre for Biology of LIPI. The Cibinong Research Center provides basic laboratory facilities and hosts the Herbarium Bogoriense and the Zoological Museum. In particular, experts of LIPI are supportive for sample identification and administrative issues e.g., the export of samples).
