Workshop
The Ethics of Living
June 2 to 3, 2014, Historische Sternwarte
In January 2014, the Lichtenberg-Kolleg started a new research group of junior and senior fellows. The research focus of the group is The Ethics of Living: Questions of Justice, Poverty, Life and Death in the Human and Natural Sciences. The core of the 'Ethics' group consists of four Junior Fellows who do research in the following areas:
- Franziska Dübgen: Transformative Justice
- Mohamed Lachhab: Die Auseinandersetzung mit der Gerechtigkeit in der Frankfurter Schule von Horkheimer bis Rainer Forst
- Sheela Saravanan: Individual Expectations of Children in Germany and India in the context of prenatal diagnosis and selective abortions
- Mark Schweda: Introducing Life Course Perspectives to Philosophical and Applied Ethics
The Göttingen group of associated senior fellows includes (in alphabetic order)
Gunnar Duttge (Law), Martina Gerken (Ecology of Livestock Production), Stephan Klasen (Development Economics), Rainer Marggraf (Environmental and Resource Economics), Walter Reese-Schäfer (Politics), Holmer Steinfath (Philosophy), and Claudia Wiesemann (Medical Ethics and History of Medicine).
In order to assess the state of the art in the rich variety of research themes that the Ethics research group will explore in the coming one and a half years, the Lichtenberg-Kolleg organizes a two-day workshop. Seven international invited speakers will give lectures on topics out of their research areas:
- Stefan Gosepath, Berlin
- Søren Holm, Manchester
- Bernd Ladwig, Berlin
- Mechthild Nagel, SUNY Cortland
- Thomas Pogge, Yale
- Sanjay Reddy, New York
- Frederick Toates, Milton Keynes
Aim of the workshop is to look for and engage with new approaches to these fields.
