Elisa Santagostino was born in Pavia (Italy) in 1997. She moved to the UK in 2014 to pursue her education. She studied for her MChem (Hons) (2020) at Manchester Metropolitan University. Her bachelor’s and master’s degree, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Oliver B. Sutcliffe, was on psychoactive to active psycho – synthesis and characterisation of illicit (pro)drugs and intermediates. During her studies, in 2019, she took part to the Erasmus programme and joined for a short time the group of Dr. Rafael Chinchilla at the University of Alicante (Spain). She investigated enantioselective Michael addition reactions of aldehydes to maleimides and nitroolefins, organocatalysed by a chiral primary amine salicylamide using deep eutectic solvents. She started her PhD studies in 2020 at the University of Göettingen in the group of Prof. Dr. Ulf Diederichsen, focusing on the synthesis of OMP nucleotide analogues to study the enzymatic mechanism of orotidine-5’-monophosphate decarboxylase. At the moment, she is carrying on with her project in the group of Jun.-Prof. Dr. Nadja Simeth.
