We moved to Göttingen on November 1 in 2010 due to the relocation of the research lab. Prior to our moving, we tried to find accommodation in Göttingen ourselves. However, we soon realized that it was very difficult to find an apartment ourselves from distance with our limited German skill. We happened to get to know the Welcome Center on their web site and contacted them to get help with finding accommodation. They quickly sent us a list of available places and kindly answered our questions. They were very professional and always available for help.
Right after we moved to Göttingen, we attended a tour of the old and new libraries at the university, which was organized by the Welcome Center. In the tour of the old library, we were impressed by the historical significance of Göttingen in science. In the new library tour, we have learned that a huge collection of books, including English ones, and other services are available to us. We enjoyed the library tour a lot and look forward to attending other events organized by the center.
We highly recommend contacting the Welcome Center to international researchers and scholars who plan to work or who already work at the Georg-August-University in Göttingen, if they haven’t done so. We assure that the Welcome Center will be able to help them get ready for moving and to keep them informed about events that help them feel at home in Göttingen.
