Replication in Economics
This seminar was offered to bachelor students three times and each time won the competition of the teaching centre for research-oriented teaching and learning. In the winter term 2012/13 a seminar for PhD students is offered for the first time.
Our aim is to help young researchers with their own empirical research by replicating articles related to the participants’ fields of interest. We have compiled a comprehensive archive of articles suitable for replication we can offer to support the choice of suitable articles and can also build on experience from many previous seminars.
Our research on replication is funded by the Institute for New Economic Thinking.
We plan to replicate a number of studies and to make our results accessible on a wiki-based website that will allow everyone to join the discussion of published research. Please take a look at the first examples in our
replication working paper series.
As they were done by bachelor students, replication is taken in a rather narrow sense here, but in the doctoral seminar we can go beyond this to include not only narrow replications but also extensions comprising additional robustness checks, modified analyses or analyses with new data.
A video of a first introduction to the topic in German can be found here.
