P2-6: Spatial scaling methods for ecological patterns

Ecological patterns often require scaling-up to yield information at a scale that is appropriate for applied questions. The aim of this project is to compile scaling-up methods and build a simple virtual test environment. Within this environment, the methods can be applied to the same initial situation to evaluate and compare their applicability to different scientific questions. For example, the prediction of species distributions by interpolating between local estimators to cover larger scales. Based on the specific advantages and disadvantages that are revealed during this virtual scaling-up, we will derive recommendations which method(s) should be used to solve a given question.
