Being on Campus with Children
There are many parent-child rooms on campus where you can learn, breastfeed or change your child's diapers. Of course, you can also use these rooms to have your child looked after while you are attending a class. The digital sitemap gives you an overview of the so-called family-friendly infrastructure on campus. You can download the digital sitemap as an app on your smartphone or tablet.
Preferential Admission to Seminars
Sometimes it is hard to reconcile your timetable with the opening hours of your day-care facilitiy. Unfortunately, there is no cross-faculty agreement on preferential admission to seminars for student parents yet. The Faculty of Medicine, for example, provides preferential admission to classes via the Elternpass (parents` passport). The Institute of Educational Sciences also sets a good example and states: „(…) Studierende in [besonderen] Lebenslagen (z.B. Behinderung, Familienaufgaben, ...) können auf Antrag unkompliziert schon vor dem Losverfahren einen Platz im Wunschseminar erhalten.“. (meaning that students in special situations (for example disabilities, family responsibilities, …) can apply for preferential admission to desired seminars before the lottery procedure).
If seminar places are so popular that there is a lottery procedure for the allocation of places, we recommend that you contact the person responsible for the allocation of places or, alternatively, the lecturers with your request before the lottery procedure.
