Goal 17 – Partnerships for the goals

Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development

Developing countries should be supported through increased mobilisation of domestic resources, financial development assistance, debt relief and investment promotion regimes.

Technology

The regional and international cooperation on and access to science, technology and innovation should be promoted to improve the development, access, knowledge sharing, transfer and dissemination and diffusion of environmentally sound technologies to developing countries.

Capacity-building

In order to support national plans to achieve all Sustainable Development Goals, international support for implementing effective and targeted capacity-building in developing countries should be increased.

Trade

A universal, rules-based, open, non-discriminatory and equitable multilateral trading system should be promoted under the World Trade Organization. Exports of developing countries should be increased. Duty-free and quota-free market access for all least developed countries should be ensured.

Systemic issues

Policy and institutional coherence
The Global Partnership for Sustainable Development should be enhanced and complemented by multi-stakeholder partnerships in order to mobilise and share knowledge, expertise, technology and financial resources. The formation of effective public, public-private and civil society partnerships must be promoted.
Data, monitoring and accountability
The capacity-building of developing countries should be supported to have a better data basis. Existing initiatives to develop measurements of progress on sustainable development that complement domestic product should be built on.*
