5: Effect of climate change and management interventions on ecosystem services of arable land and macadamia plantations in Limpopo region
A key focus of the overall project is to explore how management changes (intensification and diversification the versus status quo) in arable land and orchards potentially impact important ecosystem functions, such as carbon sequestration or productivity from fields/ plots from farms and village settings to a regional level under current and possible future climate conditions. Maintaining or improving these services demands the efficient exploitation of crop genotype × environment × management interactions (G × E × M). Process-based modelling will be used to examine the above-mentioned impacts at different levels and scale (regional and temporal).
