Empowering civics teachers to teach democracy education and prevent radicalisation – focusing on tensions within liberal democracy

Project Information:

The project’s goal is to design multi-modular professional development courses on democracy education for civics teachers. To that end, both analogue and digital courses are going to be tested with civics teachers from different school types in Lower Saxony and later optimised based on the findings of the accompanying research. In addition, revised materials and methods designed for democracy education are going to be made freely available, after having been used in actual civics lessons.

Project duration: 07–12/2021 (Empowering civics teachers to prevent radicalisation using the example of left-wing extremism, PolRapLi-I) & 01/2022–12/2023 (Empowering civics teachers to teach democracy education and prevent radicalisation – focusing on tensions within liberal democracy, PolRapLi-II); Sponsored by the Lower Saxony Ministry of Justice as part of the "Landesprogramms für Demokratie und Menschenrechte"
