International Student Barometer 2022

International students at the University of Göttingen are very satisfied

In order to evaluate the attractiveness of its study programmes and the experience of international students on site, the University of Göttingen took part in the International Student Barometer 2022. The survey, which was conducted from October until December 2022, involved 74 universities worldwide, including 38 European and 17 German universities. It thus enables a meaningful comparison of the quality of studies and support services.

The University of Göttingen scored extremely well: 90% of the international students surveyed were "very satisfied" or "satisfied" overall with their living and study situation in Göttingen. 92% are "very satisfied" or "satisfied" with the academic teaching, 87% rate their local living conditions as satisfactory or very satisfactory. 86% state that they experience an open, friendly international environment in Göttingen. Among the reasons for coming to Göttingen University are: support in career planning, the university's reputation, the cost of studying and living and safety in Göttingen.

"The results of the International Student Barometer 2022 demonstrate the successful work in supporting international students that staff from the faculties and central institutions are doing together," comments Dr. Uwe Muuß, Head of The International Office of the University of Göttingen. "The excellent feedback from our international students, but also the hurdles they encounter, are an incentive for us to continue to support this important group among our students in the future. International students are not only outstanding talents for teaching and research - the group has also become increasingly important as a potential source of skilled workers for the economy in our region and in Germany as a whole."
