Adaptation to Climate Change

Heavy rain precaution

As a result of Climate Change, the frequency, severity and duration of heavy rainfall events will increase. Depending on the severity of the heavy rainfall, this can lead to a sudden increase in flooding. Such events can also occur in Göttingen. As part of the Göttingen 2030 climate plan, the City of Göttingen has created a heavy rain hazard map that identifies areas in Göttingen that are particularly at risk. Some of the areas are also located on the University of Göttingen campus. As heavy rainfall events are difficult to predict and flooding can occur very quickly, it is advisable to be aware of hazardous areas at an early stage in order to take appropriate precautions and avoid them in the event of an emergency.
