Working title of PhD thesis: ‘Development of an optimization framework for complex breeding programs based on the Modular Breeding Program Simulator (MoBPS)’.

PhD project with focus on optimizing animal and plant breeding strategies. The aim was to provide a framework to perform mathematical optimization for problems with many input parameters, auxiliary constraints, and stochastic outputs. In addition to the development of the methodology itself, the aim is to develop this framework to enable general usage. This framework is developed as an extension of the MoBPS simulator but is also compatible with other simulation tools. It allows, hence, for the identification and implementation of optimized breeding strategies, facilitating effective resource allocation. This will provide breeders with increased flexibility and control over their breeding programs.

The PhD project was supervised by Henner Simianer. Actual PhD thesis committee was:
Henner Simianer; Martin Schlater, Antje Rohde, Torsten Pook.
Financial basis of PD project: Research was supported by the BASF Belgium Coordination Center Comm. V.
End of that financing was 31.09.2023. Budget until fall 2024 was acquired by Henner Simianer; budget since 01.10.2024 for at least 2 years provided by Christine Große-Brinkhaus; since January 2025, Azadeh H. is Scientific Assistant to Große-Brinkhaus (Division of Animal Breeding).
