About Me

I lead the Human-Centered Data Science group at the University of Göttingen. Our interdisciplinary research focuses on cognitively inspired NLP and multilingual models. I started studying computational linguistics because I wanted to combine my love for the creative subtleties of natural language with the impulse to induce some structure. As all interesting questions are interdisciplinary (in my opinion), I took additional courses in computer science, psychology, and translation technology during my studies in Saarbrücken, Barcelona, and Bolzano. I completed my PhD in computer science at TU Darmstadt and discovered the fascinating power of machine learning methods and neural networks.

In the following years, I cooperated with cognitive scientists, neuroscientists, and linguists at the University of Duisburg-Essen (interim professor), the Institute for Logic, Language and Computation in Amsterdam (researcher) and the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (assistant professor). I learned to critically assess my methodological inventory, to overcome communication barriers, and to love the Dutch lifestyle.

Without female mentors, I wouldn't have believed that an academic career was possible (let alone with two children). I want to contribute to reducing these barriers. Feel free to approach me!

My favorite topics for a sunny coffee break: the elegance of volleyball, the ease of travelling by train, the latest novel by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.
