Research outline
Climate change will have huge impacts on the life of the next generations. Therefore, it is important to share the scientific knowledge on climate change and ecosystems as well as the possibilities we have to act with younger generations. As new institution for science-communication Forum Wissen will take a key role in transferring the research and advice from other SPs to this focus group. Forum Wissen has strong established ties to schools as well as teacher training programs. Its SP will explore how the research results could be transferred in a digital learning-application with an interactive role-playing-game for school-classes. With this, school-classes could discover the forests reactions on climate-change and the responsibility of society in this. The application will let them slip into different roles (foresters, politicians, consumers e.g.) and helps to understand how individual actions are connected and impact the future of the forests.
To develop this new way of digital education we’ll work together with experts, scientists, game designers, teachers and students. With their input we will create a structure and narrative for the digital application. We’ll take interviews for video- and audio-tutorials and search for objects form the University’s collections. Out of those materials we’ll create an initial test version that will be evaluated with school-classes starting in 2027. To collect different insights and perspectives as data for the role-playing-game we’ll initiate a series of three public events in collaboration with our partner Göttingen Academy of Sciences and Humanities in Lower Saxony, discussing the role of the forests for the future.
