Please note that the University of Göttingen does not provide accommodation. Admission and enrolment at the University does not imply a commitment to a room in student dormitories or other accommodation.

Unfortunately, in Göttingen - as in Germany in general - it is very difficult to find affordable accommodation. Especially in the months of September, October and November, many people are looking for accommodation. It is therefore advisable to start looking for a room as early as possible.

Rooms in dormitories run by the Studierendenwerk cost between €300 and €400 and are therefore relatively inexpensive by Göttingen standards. Rents on the private housing market are significantly higher. Rooms in shared flats (WGs) cost between €450 and €700, flats with their own bathroom and kitchen between €600 and €800 per month, depending on location and furnishings.

Multi-room flats for families are both expensive (from €750 per month) and difficult to find.

Many international students live in student dormitories. Most dormitories are run by the Studierendenwerk, an independent non-profit organisation that works closely with the university.

Enrolled international doctoral students and international students (Bachelor/Master/Staatsexamen) who wish to live in a dormitory must apply directly to the Studierendenwerk. You can find all information about living in the dormitories of the Studierendenwerk here. Please note that there is a long waiting list with a waiting time of approximately 12 months. You should therefore apply as soon as possible via the above-mentioned website in order to be placed on the waiting list.

Please note!: If you are a Programm-/Exchange student and would like a room at the Studierendenwerk, please click here for more information. Programme-/Exchange students cannot apply directly to Studierendenwerk, but must register for a room in student accommodation via Accommodation Support.
