Major Research Interests
My research investigates how large networks of neurons in our brain collectively process sensory inputs to make sense of the world. I develop mathematical models that are complex enough to capture fundamental principles of neural information processing, yet simple enough to allow explanatory insight and analytical treatment. These models are tested and refined in close collaboration with experimentalists, using large-scale, high-dimensional neural datasets. I often employ tools from statistical physics, stochastic processes, and machine learning.
