The Forest Botanical Garden of the University of Göttingen is located in the northern part of the city, adjacent to the campus of the Faculty of Forest Sciences and Forest Ecology. Around 800 different tree and shrub species grow on the grounds — including all native species. The Forest Botanical Garden is part of the phytogeographical woody plant collection, which also includes species from Asia and North America. In addition to its use for research and teaching, the Forest Botanical Garden serves as a local recreational area.

The bioclimatology measurement station continuously records meteorological variables as well as CO₂, water, and energy fluxes using the eddy covariance method. In addition, manual measuring instruments are available on site for reading meteorological variables. The station is used exclusively for teaching purposes.
