The measurement station is located on an arable field of the Reinshof estate south of Göttingen. The estate has been leased to the University of Göttingen since 1980 and has since served as the experimental farm of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences. On 308 ha of arable land, crops such as sugar beet, winter wheat, and winter barley are cultivated in rotation.
A large part of the farmland lies within the Leinebergland Landscape Conservation Area; approximately 30 ha are located within the floodplains of the Leine and Garte rivers. About 80% of the soils consist of alluvial soils formed from colluvial loess, while the remaining 20% are decalcified loess soils.
Since 2021, the measurement station has continuously recorded CO₂, water, and energy fluxes using the eddy covariance method. Additionally, various meteorological variables are monitored, and nitrous oxide, water isotope, and oxygen fluxes are measured. Besides supporting research projects, this flux tower is also used for teaching, practical courses, and student project work.
