As part of the DFG project “Science and Power in Reforms of State Forest Organizations in Eastern Europe,” I am analyzing forestry reforms in countries of former Yugoslavia (e.g., Serbia and Slovenia). My focus is on knowledge transfer: Using the Research-Integration-Utilization (RIU) model, I examine how scientific information is integrated into forestry practice. The RIU model not only enables a nuanced analysis of knowledge transfer, but it can also be linked to the Actor-Centered Power (ACP) model; this allows for an analysis of the role of the interests and power resources of the actors involved. Within my studies, I combine qualitative and quantitative methods. The goal of my PhD is to explain which factors influence and shape knowledge transfer in forest policy.
