Admission
Candidates (m/f/d) should hold a Master's (or equivalent) degree in experimental life sciences, mathematics, computer science, statistics, physics or related fields. Students receiving their Master's degree before October 2025 are also eligible.
The official language of the IMPRS-GS is English.
Criteria for admission will include academic skills and experience, motivation and commitment, communication skills, knowledge of the English language, as well as a broader view and creativity.
The projects and PIs are described here (recruitment faculty). The offered positions will be funded. The funding is dependent on the funding source of the research group. Usually, the research group or department provides funding to their doctoral students in the form of an employment contract (approx. monthly amount of net salary: 1300-1600 EUR). Application
Complete application will include:
- online registration, with pdf documents to be uploaded
- a statement from two referees
(1.) During online application, you will be asked to enter information regarding your current and permanent address, your education (recent and previous enrollment) and academic background, language proficiency, honors, awards, and scientific motivation. You should also indicate one to five faculty members of the IMPRS-GS as potential supervisors. The projects and PIs are described here (recruitment faculty). Do not contact the potential supervisors. By choosing their names, they will automatically get your application after the application deadline. It is possible to interrupt entering information during the online application process and login at another time point (before January 14, 2025). Answering the motivation questions will be critical. Concise and focused answers are expected here and will be important for the review process! Describe why you have chosen Genome Science, what your expectations and goals are, and motivate your choice of PIs.
(2.) You will be asked to add information or upload all your documents as single pdf file.

(3.) The registration requires the address of two referees for recommendation. The referees will be contacted and be asked to answer a questionnaire online. Please make sure that the referees know about the issue. The deadline for them to fill out the recommendation is one day after your application deadline.

Time line
Application deadline is January 14, 2025; afterwards negotiation and online interviews of pre-selected candidates with potential supervisors; shortlist of candidates and final selection at recruitment days March 31-April 2, 2025 in Göttingen; start of PhD projects around fall 2025. Earlier starts might be possible, depending on the funding of the project.
