SCIENTIFIC INTERESTS AND GOALS

My past research endeavors allowed me to investigate the role of mutations in the onset and development of diseases such as cancer. Doing so made me realize that mutations are not the sole drivers of diseases. Perturbations in gene regulation through the action of non-coding RNAs and RNA-binding proteins can also be culprits in the progression of diseases. Through this program, I would like to gain a deeper understanding of gene regulation at the structural, molecular, and cellular levels.
