Diversity of Strains
Presently, the SAG maintains over 2400 strains of living microalgae incl. cyanobacteria which represent 538 genera and 1424 species. The culture strains were isolated mainly from freshwater and terrestrial habitats. Please visit our Online-Database to search for strains.

Certain taxonomic groups are particularly well-represented, for example:
- 1429 strains of green algae and 236 strains of cyanobacteria
- A large number of freshwater rhodophytes
- Almost all known euglenophytes (both pigmented and non-pigmented)
