Genome Science (IMPRS)

The International Max Planck Research School for Genome Science (IMPRS-GS) is a PhD programme with the aim to train doctoral researchers in experimental and computational genome science. The PhD researchers conduct research in topics like functional genomics, quantitative proteomics, bioimaging, computational biology, and bioinformatics. The IMPRS-GS program was established to facilitate collaborative research projects on Göttingen Campus that rely on cutting-edge techniques from both experimental and computational disciplines. Genome science has emerged as a new discipline over the last two decades, when the analysis of individual genes, RNAs, proteins, and metabolites has increasingly been replaced and complemented by an analysis of cellular systems in their entirety. We therefore consider it crucial for the coming generation of our researchers, whether experimental or theoretical, to become specialist in one discipline and to understand the language of the other. Besides conducting a research project on the highest possible level, IMPRS-GS students have the opportunity to learn experimental and theoretical Genome Science in a lecture series and in method courses. Further scientific exchange is mediated by workshops, annual retreats, seminars and conferences. The homepage of the program can be found here.
