Credits and curricula

To support doctoral students and structure the phase of researching and writing a PhD thesis, they choose different courses to earn credits. The respective amount of credits has to be completed before registering for the doctoral exam.

The PhD Programme Wood Biology and Wood Technology requires 24 credits (C) for completion. In the focus area, students have to earn at least 6 C and cover at least 2 of the following 3 thematic areas: research methodology and laboratory methods, subject-related concentration, and doctoral colloquium. Further modules for doctoral studies can be selected from curricula of other departments and then have to be accredited by the graduate committee on an individual basis. Further 6 C have to be earned in soft-skill electives. Students are required to cover 3 of the following: contributing to the programme?s internal organisation, supervised teaching and student support activity lasting one semester, responsible participation in managing a scientific project or acquiring third-party funds, presentation of the doctoral candidate's own research results at a scientific conference, and successful completion of foreign-language courses, including those offered by external institutions.

Soft skills: a minimum of 6 C from at least 3 areas (contributing to the programme?s internal organisation, supervised teaching and student support activity lasting one semester, responsible participation in managing a scientific project or acquiring third-party funds, presentation of the doctoral candidate's own research results at a scientific conference, and successful completion of foreign-language courses)
