Start-Up Research:

Brief description of activities done / goals reached

8 soil and 5 water samples were taken from Bungku research area out of Harapan forest during first trip (19-24 October 2012)
2 soil and 3 water samples were taken from Bukit Dua Belas national park during second trip
(2-4 February 2013)
The research was carry out by survey method; taking soil and water samples in the soil layer of each type of land uses as well as water samples of waterbody then analyze DOC of the samples in laboratory.
The water samples were taken from groundwater and well surrounding settlements as well.
Evaluation the dynamics of DOC in the landscape was carried out by analyzing the distribution of DOC in the soil layer of different land uses and groundwater as well as water body.
The result of DOC analysis of the soils does not indicate the expected figures yet.
There is still no spatial pattern of DOC in river water of Air Hitam watershed.

Brief description of activities done / goals reached

Six soil profiles are made with different position in transect. Two soil profiles in the top slope, two soil profiles in the middle slope and two soil profiles in the foot slope near creek.
DOC and soil solution were collected (200 cm² tray & bottle collector) and analyzed every two months for a year. Fluxes of DOC were calculated.
Water samples were colleted from the field visit in the representative scheduled month and it was analyzed in the laboratory of LIPI Cibinong.
The collected water sampling was limited and only from Ao horizon of upper and middle pits during peak of dry season (October 2014).
The concentration and amount of DOC from the lower pits are highest except the DOC amount from October 2014 sampling due to no rainfall (dry season).
The concentration and amount of DOC from Ao horizon is higher than AB horizon,
and much higher than Bt horizon.
The variability of DOC flux is very high which is indicated by its standard deviation except October sampling (dry season).
The correlation coefficients between DOC fluxes, concentration, amount and soil organic-C were 0.77, 0.73, 0.78 respectively.
The correlation coefficients between DOC fluxes, concentration, amount and soil total-N were 0.80, 0.77, 0.80 respectively.
The lower the position of the soil profile the higher the concentration, amount, and fluxes of DOC except during dry season (October).
Upper horizon of soil profile has higher concentration, amount, and flux of DOC except during dry season (October).
The correlation with soil organic-C is high, although concentration, amount, and flux of DOC during rainy season are erratic except during dry season.
