Dr. Symphorien Ongolo Assogoma receives Humboldt scholarship

(pug) As of this spring, Göttingen University’s Faculty of Forest Sciences and Forest Ecology has the pleasure of hosting Dr. Symphorien Ongolo Assogoma, currently of the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) in Yaounde, Cameroon. Thanks to a two-year postdoctoral fellowship of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Dr. Ongolo will be working as a visiting scholar at the Department of Forest and Nature Conservation Policy in Göttingen, together with Dr. Lukas Giessen and Prof. Dr. Max Krott.

Within the young researchers group “International Forest Policy”, Dr. Ongolo will be identifying, analyzing and comparing regional policy initiatives on the protection and use of forests in sub-Saharan Africa, based on institution as well as actor-specific variables. This project is part of a bigger research programme on the links between global and regional forest and environmental policy initiatives which is supervised by Dr. Giessen. The team expects detailed findings on the institutional realities of regional forest policies in sub-Saharan Africa as well as the motivations of key actors therein.
