Teaching
The department's teaching covers a broad area of phytomedicine. The basics of phytomedicine are taught. Integrated plant protection is of particular importance and is discussed in various modules. Aspects of soil cultivation, fertilization, crop rotation and variety selection are discussed as prevention or avoidance strategies. Direct control methods such as biological plant protection, mechanical and thermal weed control and chemical plant protection are discussed in detail with the inclusion of decision-making tools with the aim of “use as little as possible - as much as necessary - in a targeted manner”.
The sub-disciplines of mycology, herbology, (molecular) diagnostics and pharmacology are also taught. Other sub-disciplines (entomology, nematology, bacteriology, plant virology, ecotoxicology) are represented by other lecturers in the department or by guest lecturers.
