"Master of Arts" study courses at the Faculty of Humanities


Our varied range of more than 30 Master programmes offers you the possibility to study in an interdisciplinary, innovative and international way. All our Master programmes have been accredited by the Central Evaluation and Accreditation Agency in Hannover (ZEvA).

The Master programmes of the Faculty of Humanities are divided into 3 different profiles. The studying possibilities of these profiles depend on the respective subject.

  • Single Honours MA totalling 78 credits.
  • Joint Honours MA totalling 42 credits and a minor subject totalling 36 credits. Variety in case of drawing up the Master's thesis in a minor subject of 36 credits: Joint Honours MA totalling 42 credits and a minor subject totalling 36 credits plus additional 6 credits (attributable to key competencies). This option applies only to the MA minor subject Latin Philology of the Middle Ages and the Modern Era .
  • Joint Honours MA totalling 42 credits and two minor subjects, each totalling 18 credits.

In addition, you must acquire 12 credits in the field of key competencies and write a Master's thesis (30 credits), regardless of the profile you are studying. As a result, the credits which have to be acquired during the course of studies total 120 credits as a whole.
