Tuition Fees
Since the summer semester 2007, the state of Lower Saxony collects tuition fees in the amount of € 500 per semester. Through this, the university’s revenue has increased by approximately € 14 million which is used for the improvement of study and teaching.
Half of the contributions flows into central (university-wide) measures and its usage is decided upon directly at university level.
The other half is made available to the faculties. The distribution of these decentralized funds is based on the number of students liable to contributions of the respective faculties.
The Faculty of Humanities is one of the largest at the University of Göttingen. About 4,500 students are enrolled at more than 30 departments, institutes and centers of the Faculty of Humanities.
Due to the high number of graduations, the faculty has a budget of € 700,000 per semester, which is used faculty-wide to improve study and teaching.
