Virtual Supply Chain Management Teaching in Germany and Italy (VISTA)

Supply Chain Management (SCM) is a very interdisciplinary as well as international topic in all universities worldwide. In our project we develop a collaboration with the department of industrial engineering of the Italian University of Trento. In total six courses over a period of two semesters will be available in comprehensive, accessible, and innovative digital platforms and formats for students in Göttingen and Trento. The courses and topics range from a seminar on “Simulations in Supply Chains” (Chair of Production and Logistics, Göttingen) to a course on “Digital Production and Assembly Systems” (Department of Industrial Engineering, Trento). The lecture course format includes digital lectures and interactive tutorials. In the seminar format, German and Italian students will work together in mixed virtual teams gaining international, intercultural and interdisciplinary experiences, while requiring and executing digital skills. This is also directed at collecting international comparative data for application in joint digital research teams and projects. This can be a future-oriented low-level and efficient entry for all student groups to international academic exchange.

Prof. Dr. Matthias Klumpp - Project Manager (Georg-August-University Göttingen)
Matthias Klumpp is working at the Georg-August-University of Göttingen (Chair for Production and Logistics) and the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics (IML) Dortmund (Health Care Logistics). He received his Ph.D. from the University of Leipzig, his habilitation from the University of Duisburg-Essen and was in visiting positions at University of Twente, EUI Florence, University of Lugano (IDSIA), and University of Modena. Addressed research topics are sustainable, digital (AI), and resilient supply chains with a focus on HCI and qualification.

Beatriz Beyer, M.Sc. – Project Manager (Georg-August-University Göttingen)
Beatriz Beyer works as research assistant at the Georg-August-University Göttingen (Chair for Production and Logistics). She studied at the University of Göttingen, Technical University of Lisbon and at the University of California Berkeley and finished with a Master of Science in Management. Her research topics are agent-based simulations, sustainability of the heating market and of bio-energy paths. She is the project manager of VISTA.

Francesco Pilati, Ph.D. Eng - Project Partner (University of Trento, Italy)
Francesco Pilati is Assistant Professor at Department of Industrial Engineering - University of Trentoand Chair of Industrial plants, Production systems and Logistics. He has been Visiting Scholar at Department of Industrial Engineering at Oklahoma State University (USA). He holds a PHD in Industrial Engineering obtained at University of Padova (Italy). He is Organizer and Chair of Invited Sessions entitled "Assembly System 4.0" for conferences of International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC). He is Member of Technical Committee on Manufacturing Plant Control of IFAC. His research concerns the design and management of production and logistics systems, through mathematical models with focus on digitization of production processes with technologies of Industry 4.0.
