Details | It is widely acknowledged that migration is a global phenomenon and that the complex field of migration can only be understood in the context of global political, economic and social processes of change. The conference strives to focus on migration as a global challenge: we want to shed light on the interconnectedness of issues of global concerns and their impacts on national and local societies. In an attempt to establish cross- and transregional perspectives that avoid eurocentrism, the conference brings together central research agendas from various geographical regions and connects them to ongoing international and national debates. By applying such a multi-disciplinary and multi-/transregional perspective, the conference probes the potentials and limits of global migration research on the level of methodology and points to central research desiderata. It considers several conjoining factors, such as climate change, sustainability, development, human rights, labor, education, integration/participation and citizenship, questions of global migration governance, the pluralization of religious beliefs and conflicts as well as scientific knowledge production. The conference is organized by the Network for Global Migration Studies which is an interdisciplinary cooperation of more than 50 migration researchers from different disciplines - from Agricultural Economics to the Sociology of Religion - at Göttingen Campus. The Network's main purpose is the strengthening of migration research in Göttingen. It will create linkages in the broad field of migration studies and enable productive exchange in order to not only generate innovative research ideas but also reinforce the noticeability within and beyond the research area." |
